Disability Insurance 101 - Business Overhead Coverage

Hey everybody, it's Kraig Strom with brokendude.com and back in my office today here in Corona, back from my tenth wedding anniversary trip to Victoria, British Columbia. It was a great trip. And as I mentioned before in the other videos and the series, that trip brought to me, courtesy of my paycheck; courtesy of my paycheck, because without my paycheck we would not have had such a wonderful trip to go to Victoria.
 
So, remembering what Broken Dude is all about.  A lot of fun, a lot of stuff; it's entertaining here, but the real fundamental purpose of Broken Dude is to answer this question: is your paycheck insured? Is your paycheck insured? And I know what're thinking as well. His daughter was so sweet to draw that on his white board for him. No, I drew that. So, it's pretty impressive, I know. It's pretty impressive.
 
Today, continuing the series on Disability Insurance 101.  We're going to talk about Business Overhead Expense.  You can purchase disability insurance to protect your own paycheck. So, for example, if you don't own your own business, you might still want to make sure that if you are broke and disabled, unable to work, that you would have as much of your paycheck insured as possible.
 
So, what if you're a business owner, though? If you're a business owner you can purchase paycheck insurance, but you can also purchase Business Overhead Expense Insurance and that's exactly what it sounds like. That if you have an operating expense, let's say it cost you $5,000 a month for certain expenses, you can actually purchase insurance that in the event that you're disabled, broken, busted, paralyzed, car accident, whatever it is, that you can actually purchase insurance that will kick in some coverage, some monies coming in the door to offset some of those business expenses that are going to continue to happen even though you're disabled. You might be broken and disabled, but your business still ends up with these reoccurring expenses and without business overhead expense and in addition to losing your own ability to earn an income, it's going to be very hard to keep your business going. So look for that option as a discussion with financial advisors, someone like me, preferably me about business overhead expense.




I personally have paycheck insurance. I've got two different policies that cover me for paycheck insurance, but I also have Business Overhead Expense that will pay an insurance benefit to me to help with some of the expenses of operating my business. So, that's the lesson for today.
