Intrauterine Device (IUD)

An IUD is an intra-uterine device. Fancy words to describe a tiny gadget, like this one, that goes inside your uterus and prevents you from getting pregnant. There are two types of IUDs available in the U.S., but they both work in a similar way. IUDs prevent pregnancy by changing the lining of the uterus and affecting the way sperm move, making it harder for them to reach an egg. One type of IUD even has hormones that prevent you from releasing an egg.
An IUD lasts for a long time. After its inserted by a health care professional, itll stay in your uterus and prevent pregnancy for five to 12 years — depending on which one is best for you.
